Advent 2025
“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”
(Matthew 2:11)
What does a gift reveal about the recipient? What does it say about the giver? This Advent, we focus on the mysterious Magi and what their gifts reveal to us about the Christ child.
Following Yonder Star…
The Magi were not quaint travelers with camels and gold boxes—they were powerful men. In ancient Persia, they were royal advisors, scholars, and priests of another faith entirely. And yet, these priests of another faith are among the first to bow before Christ.
Gift of Gold
Images tell us what a culture values. Gold has always carried the image of wealth and worth—shiny, untouchable, rare. But Scripture shows us that even the most sacred images can become dangerous when they try to replace God.
Gift of Frankincense
It all begins with an idea.
Gift of Myrrh
Myrrh is a strange gift. It was a costly spice, but it was primarily used for embalming the dead. Imagine the scene: Mary and Joseph are watching as gifts are presented to their child, and someone hands them embalming perfume.
Christmas Eve Meditation
The story of Christmas was meant to change us from the inside out. Matthew 2 revolves around this very idea—hearts being redirected and transformed.
