Day 6: Magdalene Meets the New Adam

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)

“He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).” (John 20:15-16)

On the sixth day, creation reaches its peak as animals fill the land. Then, humanity. In this account of Creation it’s not just a single Adam, but multiple people; image-bearers, created to live in and reflect the life of God. That detail matters.

Because from the beginning, God’s work was never meant for just one person. It was always meant to include all of us. The resurrection carries that same invitation. This new beginning is not just for Jesus, but for everyone.

That’s the moment Mary Magdalene steps into on Easter morning. She stands in a garden once again, standing before the Christ, the New Adam.

At first, she doesn’t recognize Him. She mistakes Him for the gardener. Until He speaks her name and everything changes.

Where the first garden held the weight of disobedience and curse, this one holds the gift of obedience; the obedience of Christ, carried all the way to the cross. Newness doesn’t arrive as an idea. It arrives as a voice that knows your name. When it calls you, it invites you into a life that was always meant for more than just one.
